Development: Rs3.4 billion earmarked for agriculture sector

LAHORE: The Punjab government has earmarked Rs3.4 billion for the agriculture sector to attain autarchy in food, fruit and vegetable, sources said on Friday.

LAHORE: The Punjab government has earmarked Rs3.4 billion for the agriculture sector to attain autarchy in food, fruit and vegetable, sources said on Friday.

The funds have been made available from the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2011-12, they added.

They said that a total of 29 schemes would be completed. They added that 19 of these schemes were new while the rest were already in progress. They said that a number of steps were being taken to promote the agriculture sector in the province.

The measures include the promotion of exportable high-value crops through improved techniques, revamping marketing system and averting losses from insects, pests, weeds, salinity and alkalinity, they said.
