LAHORE: Pakistan Agriculture Scientists Association (PASC) President Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, while rejecting the proposed tax on agriculture inputs, said that the federal government should announce subsidy on seed, fertiliser, pesticides, tractors and other implements instead of imposing tax. In a press statement issued here Tuesday, he said the government should bring prices of inputs down to increase per acre yield in the country.

Now, the Punjab government wants to impose agriculture tax, he said and added that farmers could not bear the burden of further taxes and the government should make farmer-friendly policies. He urged the federal as well as provincial governments to find out ways to strengthen the agriculture sector and increase per acre yield. He said the agriculture sector should be strengthened which would ultimately strengthen the industrial sector.

“Every country is taking steps for food security while we are thinking about imposing taxes on agriculture inputs which would be unjust to farmers,” he added.

End.
