GAZA: At least 28,576 Palestinians have been killed and 68,291 injured in Israeli strikes on Gaza since Oct.7, the health ministry in Gaza has said in a statement, Reuters reports.

In the last 24 hours, 103 Palestinians were killed and 145 injured, the ministry’s statement added.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has released a detailed breakdown of the events surrounding the killing of Al Jazeera’s Hamza Dahdouhand Mustafa Thuraya, a freelance video journalist with AFP, in an Israeli drone strike on January 7, 2024, Al Jazeera reports.

On January 8, the Israel military spokesperson told the Times of Israel that Al Dahdouh and Thuraya were travelling in a vehicle with “a terrorist who operated an aircraft in a way” that it says put its forces “at risk”.

The CPJ present several reports that reject the characterization of the journalists as terrorists.

The committee also stated it emailed the North American desk of the Israeli military to identify the “terrorist” but did not receive a reply.

CPJ said it has documented numerous incidents in which “the Israeli military has accused journalists it killed of militant activity without evidence”.
