PTI in position to form govts in Centre-KP-Punjab

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Friday said it would have more than a simple majority in the National Assembly to form its government. Addressing a press conference here, the party’s Information Secretary, Raoof Hasan, said Imran Khan would never strike a deal with the powers that be unless there is supremacy of democracy and its acceptance in the true sense, adding that the PTI would use both legal and constitutional means to block the undue interference of non-political forces in the country’s political affairs.

Raoof claimed the PTI was in a position to form its governments in the Centre, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab despite electoral tampering and engineering.

When his attention was drawn towards the legal provisions that the PTI could not qualify for allotment of reserved seats, he disagreed, saying they would exercise the legal option and get the reserved seats in proportion to their general seats.

Raoof insisted that whichever political party came to parliament would have the right to form its government and should be allowed to do so and there must be no interference whatsoever in this connection.

Raoof demanded an empowered commission to expose the elements involved in electoral tampering and hold them accountable.

He highlighted the role of Election Commission in the entire scenario and pointed out that like in the past elections, the Election Commission’s system collapsed and then the phase of tampering started and resumed only after tampering had been done. He said the ‘PTI-backed candidates’ had achieved a landslide of NA seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and had won 38-40 seats so far.

Raoof said the PTI was also leading in the Punjab Assembly, whereas another party was being pushed up through engineering. “If the election results are announced with honesty and integrity, we are in a position to form three governments at least,” he added. He said some people were trying their utmost to keep the PTI away from power in the Centre and Punjab, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they were helpless to do anything like that.
To a question, he said the PTI did not believe in revenge and there was a special chapter in its manifesto in this respect. “We will leave no stone unturned to heal the wounds inflicted on the country during the past 75 years.”

He contended that undoubtedly, Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif would become active again to buy the PTI’s elected candidates. However, he vowed that the PTI had purified now and transformed drastically during the last two years. Raoof made it clear that Imran Khan was in jail for the sake of country and democracy and was perhaps the only leader in the country who commanded so much power even from confinement.
