RAWALPINIDI: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has directed all necessary steps for an effective response to the NATO attack on the border outpost on Saturday, a statement issued by the military said.

The COAS strongly condemned NATO helicopters and fighter aircraft's unprovoked firing on two Pakistan Army border posts in Mohmand Agency resulting in loss of 24 security forces officials. He said that the NATO/ISAF's blatant and unacceptable aggression resulted in loss of precious lives of Pakistani soldiers, said an ISPR press release.

While lauding the effective response by the Pakistan Army soldiers in self-defence, he directed that all necessary steps be taken for an effective response to this irresponsible act.

The release said that on the night of November 25 and 26 NATO helicopters and fighter aircraft carried out unprovoked firing on two Pakistan Army border posts in Mohmand Agency killing 24 troops.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned on Saturday the NATO helicopters' attack on Pakistani troops in two Pakistan Army border posts in Mohmand Agency and termed it a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty.

President Zardari said that a strong protest had also been launched with NATO and ISAF on this incident and that they had been asked to take urgent action against those responsible for this aggression.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Presidency on Saturday and discussed the incident.

The prime minister said that he had summoned a meeting of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet at the PM House on Saturday to discuss this issue with the national leadership and to formulate the government's response in the aftermath of this incident.

End.
