LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has demanded immediate announcement of election schedule from the government to put an end to confusions.

He was presiding over an important party meeting on Wednesday to discuss the overall political situation, especially the proposed long march of Dr Tahirul Qadri.

The meeting decided that if workers of Dr Qadri's Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran do not disrupt law and order situation, they should be given a freehand for the long march scheduled for January 14 in Islamabad. Nawaz said that launching a long march was the democratic right of every party but no one would be allowed to violate the law.

Nawaz said that the PML-N would foil any conspiracy regarding postponement of the general election, adding that his party would not allow anyone to derail the democratic system. The country does not need imported politicians and the nation is sick and tired of political gimmickry, he said.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Senator Ishaq Dar, Senator Parvez Rasheed, MNA Khwaja Saad Rafiq, MNA Hamza Shahbaz, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Maryam Nawaz and others attended the meeting.

Dr Qadri has threatened to lead a long march to the federal capital if the demand of electoral reforms is not met. He has been offered support for the march by two of the main allies of the government –MQM and the PML-Q.

End.
