PESHAWAR: A senior police official, 'renowned' for anti-Taliban operations, and his driver were killed and two others were injured when a suicide bomber attacked them on Friday, officials said. Ajmeer Shah, station house officer of Risalpur police station in Nowshera district, was the target, according to senior police official Israrullah Khan. "The SHO was the target," Khan told our sources by phone from Nowshera. "It looks as if the bomber was waiting for the police official." Another policeman and a passer-by were injured in the attack, the official added. Eyewitnesses said that the bomber was waiting for the police official at a function where he was to be hailed for fighting against terrorists. "As he reached the venue the bomber blew himself up close to his vehicle," they said. Ajmeer Shah led several successful raids against Taliban in Nowshera district and his last encounter saw senior Taliban leader Qari Basit killed. But Ajmeer Shah was in notice of the Peshawar High Court for his alleged role in "forced disappearances" of people and the higher judiciary had ordered the registration of an FIR against him. He was also alleged to have been"hand in glove" with people stealing fuel from NATO tankers and pretended that the Taliban were behind such attacks on these tankers supplying fuel to NATO and US forces in Afghanistan. End.
