Fence Sitters View | | | | .......Please send us your feedback at editor@paktribune.com | | | The term ‘Fence Sitters’ comes from President General Musharraf’s speech to the nation on April 4, 2002 where he said, “Today, I want to draw a line in politics. On one side of the line there are people who want my continuation, they see a need for me and they are in favour of reforms and restructuring. They want continuation of the reforms process and want my continuity in the office. And on the other side of the line are those who are against reforms and restructuring. There are also a number of people who are fence-sitters waiting to go to this side or that side of the fence” These are the words through which President Musharraf gave recognition to the existence of Pakistan’s silent majority called ‘Fence-Sitters’.
‘Fence Sitters’ are the people who are from ordinary walk of life living either in Pakistan or abroad. They are widely non political, unbiased but highly concerned of what is happening around them. Therefore they cast their votes very cautiously but often get betrayed. They never get heard on the mainstream media because they express themselves in drawing-rooms or at workplace or at the hair-dresser’s parlor.
‘Fence Sitters’ believe that words of wisdom do not come always from renowned media figures, journalists, defense experts or ex-bureaucrats etc; but from concerned citizen of Pakistan who often utters words that usually are of par excellence.
