The Software giant known throughout the known world for its commitment to security standards, Microsoft, is stepping up pressure on email companies to run its "Sender ID" scheme.
This is despite the fact that most security experts think that the Volish plan will send about 10 per cent of legitimate email to the trash can.
According to News.com, Vole yesterday sent out an email to ISPs saying that any mail that is sent to Microsoft's Hotmail and MSN services which does not include a Sender ID will probably be trashed.
Sender ID is a cunning plan pushed by Microsoft which aims to make the DNS system check if an email comes from a valid mail server. Emails, which do not come from a mailserver sporting a Sender ID will be junked and treated like third class citizens.
About 25 per cent of the world’s email has a Sender ID. Although a lot that don’t are spam, there are a fair number which aren’t.
Vole's "get tough" act has the backing of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), which sees it as a way of purging the e-cowboys from the world wide wibble web.
