Britney Spears gave birth to her first child last night - a boy she named Preston Michael Spears Federline.

The 23-year-old singer, who reportedly went into early labor Sept. 9, arrived at UCLA Medical Center at 6 a.m. yesterday. She gave birth by Caesarean section shortly before 1 p.m.

Spears, who married 27 year old Federline in September last year, had been previously reported as saying she planned to have the baby by Caesarean section to avoid the pain of a natural birth.

The singer became a worldwide pop phenomenon at the age of 16 and has sold more than 60 million albums. She made no secret of her desire to become a mother at a young age and put touring, performances and public appearances on hold after her marriage.

End.
