ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China for the first time started today their naval wargames in Pakistani waters.

The wargames are divided into two parts -- exercises on harbor and in open sea waters. Harbor wargames started on Tuesday.

The Chinese naval ship, Shenzen, equipped with guided missiles, is presently participating in the harbor wargames in southern Pakistani territory.

An auxiliary Chinese tanker, Weishanhu, is also participating in the exercises.

Reports said that a 21-gun salute was accorded to the Chinese ship upon its arrival in Pak waters. The exercises would enter a new phase from Thursday. It is said that besides fighting out an enemy, the exercises would also focus on how to cope with a tsunami-like calamity.
