ISLAMABAD, December 01 (Online): All the reconstruction work in the quake stricken areas will be carried out under the supervision of the AJK Prime Minister and AJK government and master plan in this connection will be evolved after seeking approval from the assembly.

This decision was taken in high level meeting held here Wednesday in Kashmir house under AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) chairman Lt Gen Zubair, AJK cabinet members, senior officers and technical experts from NESPAK, Northern Sui Gas and other institutions attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting AJK Prime Minister unveiled the details of AJK government endeavours in connection with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of quake victims.

He underscored the need for working out master plan after presenting the proposals on reconstruction of government and private buildings in the quake ravaged areas. It was also agreed that the consensus decision would be taken in the light of recommendations of ERRA and other institutions.

It was also stressed that reconstruction of district offices and central offices in Muzaffarabad and provision of Sui gas, airport and other facilities be expedited and rebuilding of Poonch, Bagh and other areas be carried out on top priority basis.

Earlier, chairman ERRA, Lt Gen Muhammad Zubair Khan unfolded the details of proposals on master plan for reconstruction work in the quake hit areas of AJK saying that ERRA would complete the desired work under the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and with the consultation of AJK Prime Minister and government.

ERRA will perform the task of coordination, he told.

During detailed briefing he told that President General Pervez Musharraf on the proposal of AJK Prime Minister had increased the compensation amount for reconstruction of destroyed houses to Rs 175000.

"We will disburse this amount among the affectees in three to four installments", he added. The distribution mode will be Rs 25000 and then Rs 50000 each for three times, he pointed out. The affected people will spend this money in the reconstruction of their houses according to their will, he added.

ERRA will only interfere when reformation or improvement is needed. All the works will be done within the framework of AJK government set up.

What do you think about the story?

Read what others have to say

I first read about Mr. Khan in a Los Angeles Times newspaper article that was carried by my local paper, the Missoulian in Missoula, Montana. I simply want to say thank you to Mr. Khan for his hard work and financial generosity in helping his hometown of Batagram recover from the devestating earthquake. I was impressed that he has worked hard all his life and is using his new-found wealth to help others. I was also proud to read that he is an alumni of Northern Illinois University, as am I. Best wishes to you, Mr. Khan, and I hope the harshness of Batagram's conditions do not discourage you from continuing your humanitarian work.

The contents of your news article does not report about any present, on going efforts. All of the news is about what the AJK administration WILL do in the future. I would rather read about all on going efforts. The PM of AJK, the Gen. and members of Sui Gas have collectively decided what and how they WILL do whatever it is. Your article points out, seemingly in an attempt to placate and suck up to the AJK PM, that this work will be done under his leadership. First, does not the AJK PM need to govern and perform his duties otherwise, second..what expertise does the AJK PM possess in order to know what will be going on? The same questions would be asked of the army Gen. and the participants of Sui Gas. Above all this articles reeks of an attempt to placate the administration, quite similar to what may have been written during the days of the British rule. Whoever wrote this article needs to take classes in journalism! Sorry...nothing hasd changed! Good Luck
