ISLAMABAD, December 30 (Online): Pakistan Meteorological Department Thursday predicted heavy snow for the earthquake affected areas during next 3 days.

Spokesman of Met office informed that a strong weather system has started to develop over Pakistan, which is likely to produce widespread snow over the mountains above 5,000 feet. The intensity of the snow may be high at times in most parts of Galliat, Hazara and Kashmir.

The intermittent rain/snow with the risk of landslides likely to disrupt the rescue operations in the earthquake areas including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Neelum Valley, Chakothi, Balakot, Mansehra, Batgram, Kohistan Kaghan, Naran and adjoining areas.

The night temperatures are already close to freezing point in most of the earthquake hit areas and largely below freezing point at higher elevations. The day temperatures are likely to remain 6 to 10 degree Celsius below normal in all affected areas during the rain and snow.

Scattered rain with snow over the hills is also predicted for different parts of the Punjab, NWFP, Sindh and Balochistan during the period.

Weather pundits also predicted light rain and snow over the hills is expected at a few places of Balochistan, Upper NWFP, North Punjab and Kashmir on Friday evening/night and scattered thick fog expected to persist in the plan areas of Punjab.

On Thursday, weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country. The lowest temperature was recorded -10 degree Celsius in Bausir.

End.

Thank You for the weather and other updates. I had the priveledge to join in the relief efforts. I came from California to help build the shelters that utilize the corrugated metal roofing. I am glad to have experienced firsthand the people of the Siran valley area. These people were so kind and hospitable to us. I periodically check your site to see how the progress is coming along. So many people in need there. Question: The map I have of Pakistan does not show the Siran vally or Nawazabad. Is this in Kohistan? I am sorry to hear the weather seems to be going bad. Our team left the area on Dec. 22. The weather was really nice for the week spent there building shelters.
