ISLAMABAD : Electricity of 400 remote villages will be achieved soon either by solar or wind energy source, Chairman Alternative Board Energy (AEB) Air Marshal(r) Shahid Hamid said.

Speaking in a PTV programme, he said the world’s emphasis is on alternative energy resources.

Talking about the reasons, he said that oil prices are increasing and fossil fuels like oil and gas are depreciating.

Basically, the target of AEB is to achieve 10 per cent of energy through alternative resources, he added.

The basic sources of alternative energy he said are wind, solar, microhydral, tidal waves and hydrogen fuel cells energy.

To handle this situation, he said the government had come up with an innovative approach to generate electricity through wind mills.

He said the production of electricity up to 600 Mega Watt through Wind Mill by 2007 was part of the government’s plans to provide cheaper electricity to the people.

Different experiments were also under process to produce solar energy, he added.

He said that the completion of all those projects would help the country meet energy demands.
