ISLAMABAD: Expressing his concern over Pakistan’s Kashmir policy, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani Thursday said the recent meeting between President General Pervez Musharraf and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Havana (Cuba) will prove to be an exercise in futility for resolving the Kashmir issue like past.

Addressing the participants of an Iftifar dinner hosted by former Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Abdul Rasheed Turabi from via telephone from Srinagar on Thursday at Kashmir Information Centre, the Hurriyat chief said the present Kashmir policy of Pakistan is totally against the basic perspective of Kashmiri people.

Syed Gillani said Self governance, joint control and opening borders is not a sustainable solution for Kashmir issue, if India takes sincere steps for resolution of Kashmir issue by withdrawing its troops from the valley and release all detained Kashmiris and agree for the solution of Jammu and Kashmir issue as per UN resolution then we will immediately announce a ceasefire. If Kashmiris had to accept these resolutions then why did Kashmiris started freedom struggle we will not let anyone to betray Kashmir freedom fighters, he added.

The Kashmiri leader made it clear that APHC has no intention to go for allegiance with the sitting government blaming it for changing its stance on Pakistan and Kashmir policy.

Hitting hard the Kashmir policy of Pakistan government, Syed Ali Gillani said Kashmiris are very upset about the shift of Pakistan over Kashmir issue and it is having negative impact on Kashmir freedom movement.

However, Kashmiri people are grateful to the people of Pakistan for supporting them, morally and politically.

Responding to a query about Pakistan-India joint mechanism against terrorism, Syed Gillani said such proposals are coming forward on behest of United States. US is using President Musharraf for accomplishing Indian agenda.

"Despite continuing peace process India has not shown any flexibility over Jammu and Kashmir issue, it is only Pakistan that is unilaterally forwarding proposals for a solution and this attitude of government of Pakistan has made Pakistan’s position very contentious," he held.

Responding to a query, he ruled out any chance of alliance with APHC Mir Waiz group because people in this group have negated the basic point of view of Kashmir issue.

End.
