ISLAMABAD: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said that Pakistan is heading towards right direction and Government will provide maximum facilities to people and the revenue collection would accede over Rs. 800 bn in current fiscal year .

Addressing in a launching ceremony of National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) Utility Bills payment project in Federal Capital on Thursday, the President said the facility should be expanded across the country for the benefit of the common man.

President Musharraf further said there are two hundred and forty kiosks in the country and number of such kiosks should be expanded all over ther country for the benefit of the low income group which stands to gain from this state of the art facility.

It is a great facility for the common man and a manifestation of public convenience, he added.

The President directed NADRA to educate the people in the use of this modern system, which would help facilitate the convenient payment of utility bills in cash at various designated points across the country.

President General Musharraf lauded NADRA for its successful Machine-Readable Passports (MRP’s) project, which is being considered as one of the best in the world incorporating state of the art security features.

President Musharraf noted that the number of Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) holders currently stands at 53.5 million and hoped that NADRA will achieve the target of 60 million by the end of this year.

He went on to say that the MRP’s and CNIC, which carry state of the art security features, have improved the country’s image abroad adding that MRP’s will go a long way to bringing credibility to this national document.

President Musharraf also lauded the role of NADRA in the anti terror campaign and said that authority has been helpful in apprehending terrorists.

Commenting on the country economy, the President said the revenue collection today has touched over Rs. 700 billion so far and is expected to accede over Rs. 800 billion in the current fiscal year.

President Musharraf added that a target of Rs. 1 trillion has been set for revenue collection for the fiscal year 2007-08.

Record allocations of Rs. 415 billion have been earmarked for the public sector development programme, he added.

The President further noted 7 years ago the revenue collections were just over Rs. 300 billion adding that Rs. 400 billion increase of revenue collection is being spent on the development projects across the country.

Criticizing the past governments, the President said in the past the leaders kept changing the course of the policies with every change in the leadership.

He said when he assumed power the economy was in a very bad shape and he set a direction and produced solutions.

The President said direction was set to the rudderless ship of the country and policies were strategized to achieve the results and God also helped us in this regard.

Earlier, Minister for Interior Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao speaking on the occasion said that the system provide ease to the general public in the payment of their utility bills and will replace long queues under extreme weather conditions that really pained all of us.

He said state of the art utility bills payment Kiosk is at part with other developing countries of the world.

Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao the Kiosk with modern technology would facilitate timely payment of utility bills in cash.

These state of the art kiosks with the latest Information Technology are simply to operate and people can use, Interior Minister added.

He in short word said that the whole system is not only beneficial for utility consumers but will also facilitate utility companies.

He also appreciated the role of NADRA to provide good governance and solutions for home land security.
