WASHINGTON: President General Pervez Musharraf has rejected "absolutely and totally" the prospect of a joint US-Pakistan military operation to pursue retreating insurgents inside Pakistan.

"The whole population of Pakistan will rise against it," he told CBS news channel in an interview.

Musharraf hit out at his Afghan counterpart, saying he was "very angry" at criticism of Pakistani progress in fighting cross-border terrorism.

"Pakistan is being maligned by the West unfairly" in criticism that it is not doing enough to root out terrorists on its soil and to help crush the Taliban movement in Afghanistan, he said.

Musharraf said the criticism on a "total lack of understanding of the environment and reality by President Hamid Karzai himself."

Asked if he was "angry" with Afghanistan`s US-backed leader, he replied: "Yes, indeed. Very angry."

Musharraf dismissed as "absolute nonsense" a claim by Karzai that the wanted Taliban leader Mullah Omar a close ally of Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden was hiding out in Pakistan.

Musharraf said on Thursday that tribesmen in the South Waziristan tribal area had killed 300 foreign militants of the Al-Qaeda network, with help from the Pakistani military.

But he rejected "absolutely and totally" the prospect of a joint US-Pakistan military operation to pursue retreating insurgents inside Pakistan.

"The whole population of Pakistan will rise against it," he added.

End.

Hello dear Suresh, perhaps you forgot to flip what is known as "your country" when you write on this site, however your comments are somewhat away from reality.
In the last several decades of Indo-Pak history General Musharaf happens to be one who has made more attempts on a friendly relationship between Pakistan and India and have also achieved a great deal of that as is quite evident.
Secondly you should forget about China because you dont seem to know the level of cooperation that is being exchanged between China & India lately. Actually it is India that is being used as a trump card by the good old US of A to level against China and dont forget that USA is one of the largest user of toilet paper, while not to mention USA does throw away all the used Toilet Paper in case you are interested in recycling that.
However you can imagine where this growing frienship between India is leading to.... Dump & Flush .....
One thing I fail to understand is on one hand you declare your country of origin to be Pakistan in your correspondence while on the other hand you suggest to be belonging to some other country other than Pakistan by your very own writing. Oh well! dont be embarassed it happens however remember that every toilet paper must be used and there is only one way to use it and you seem to have chosen that, so good luck.
As far as Karzai is concerned yes he is the head of Afghanistan, but your knowledge on this matter seems to be no where, Karzai a resident of the US of A where he worked in a kitchen as a chef in the city of Baltimore was "installed" by his dearest friends, while it is known that the rest of his family still remains there and runs a kitchen at a resturant, make a note of that for future discussions please. Oh yes! also remember to post the accurate name of your country of origin next time around since your writing disclaims that you are a Pakistani, never mind, the truth reflects from your writing any way.

But of course in order to play with fire you have to have the strengths & willingness, its not everyone's game.
Taliban is what freed Afghanistan of the Soviet occupation & yes the supply was maintained by USA among many others.
A lot is refered to intelligence these days but intelligence is an attribute of intelligent ones once again every rumor and all types of rhetorical statements cannot be considered what a lot of people refer to as "intelligence". If ISI was to train who you say it's training then other items on the agenda would have been resolved by now too. Of course terrorism is bad but spreading rumors is worse. Be careful about accepting every rumor as intelligence because spreading rumors is similar to playing with fire and YES it can burn hands specially of those who are not well experienced with handling fire as a toy.
