ISLAMABAD: Top Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders will seriously question in the next party meeting its senior stalwarts, including Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, about their support to the division of the Punjab. “The issue will come up in the next PML-N meeting to be presided over by Nawaz Sharif,” PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal confirmed to our sources.
The PML-N supreme leader, currently in London, is likely to return to Pakistan around mid-July. At present, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Javed Hashmi are also abroad.
Hashmi’s outright espousal of the demand for creation of Saraiki province out of Punjab has irked the PML-N. It feels that the issue has been tossed around with a view to politically harm the PML-N.
Ahsan said there was a prescribed procedure given in the Constitution to create more provinces that had to be followed while dealing with such an issue. A PML-N source said unless the party took a firm decision, the support to the demand of dividing Punjab into two province by any of its leader would strengthen the hands of those, who who want to harm PML-N.
