Musharraf and Judge`s Case

LAHORE: Lawyers observed a countrywide black day on Tuesday to condemn Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s unconstitutional steps taken on Nov 3, 2007, including sacking and detention of judges of superior courts, imposition of emergency and the promulgation of the Provisional Constitution Order.

They boycotted courts, held protest meetings and took out rallies, besides wearing black armbands and hoisting black flags on their offices to mark the second anniversary of Musharraf’s attack on the country’s judiciary.

In the provincial metropolis, the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) took out separate protest rallies in which workers of various political parties and members of civil society also participated. Earlier, both the bars held their general house meetings where speakers condemned Gen (retd) Musharraf’s attack on the judiciary. They warned that conspiracies against independence of the judiciary were still being hatched as the masses were deprived of the real fruits of the independent judiciary for which lawyers and people ran a long movement.

The LHCBA rally was led by its president Nasira Iqbal and other representatives. It marched from the GPO Chowk to the State Bank Chowk while the LBA members marched from the Aiwan-e-Adl to PMG Chowk under the leadership of their president Rana Zia Abdul Rehman.

End.
