LONDON: The overseas Sikh organisations have demanded international intervention to deliver justice for the members of their community who lost their lives in riots in the wake of the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on November 4, 1984 in New Delhi.

“Not one of the politicians or security officials, who organised and actively led the mobs, have been brought to justice, despite eyewitness testimony evidencing their involvement. Respected human rights organisations the world over have repeatedly castigated over the years India’s establishment for the huge cover up,” said Amrik Singh Sahota, President of the UK-based Council of Khalistan, in a statement on Wednesday on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the tragic events.

He claimed that pogroms in Delhi and elsewhere in India in November 1984, led to the deaths of up to 20,000 Sikhs who were allegedly killed by Congress Party-led mobs in full view of security forces.

End.
