MULTAN: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that no time frame could be given for the conclusion of the operation in South Waziristan Agency (SWA). He, however, added that it would conclude successfully well before expectations of the nation.
Talking to newsmen at the Multan airport before his departure for the federal capital, Gilani said no operation was being conducted in Balochistan.Answering a question, the prime minister said the country’s nuclear assets were in safe hands. He said the armed forces were performing their professional duties with responsibility.
Responding to another question, the prime minister said Pakistan would be taken into confidence on any change in the US Afghan policy. He added that he had asked US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her last visit to Islamabad that the US should consult Pakistan if it wanted to make any change in its Afghan policy.
The country had the will to fight the war against terrorism, but the international community’s help would be vital in enhancing its ability to win the war, he said.He said Pakistan only lacked state-of-the-art equipment to fight terror and the international community had been asked to help it built its anti-terror capacity.
Answering another question regarding the reported Indian involvement in Balochistan, he said the issue had been taken up during his meeting with the Indian prime minister at Sharm el-Sheikh and was made part of the joint statement issued thereafter. “The evidence will be presented at a suitable time,” the prime minister added.
Pakistan always wanted to have good relations with all its neighbours and desired resumption of the composite dialogue process with India, he said. When asked about the US drone strikes in the tribal areas, he said such strikes were counterproductive. “We are trying to separate militants from tribesmen, but the drone attacks are doing exactly the opposite,” he said. The US should transfer the drone technology to Pakistan, Gilani added.
