10 more militants, two soldiers killed in Kurram

PARACHINAR: Ten militants and two security forcesí personnel were killed in fresh clashes in the central part of the Kurram Agency on Sunday, official sources said.

Security forces pounded the hideouts of militants in Tarli and surrounding areas of the tribal region. Tribal sources said helicopter gunships and jet fighters also hit targets in several areas.

In the fresh clashes, security forces killed 10 militants and injured 15 others, the sources said, adding two security personnel, including Naib Subedar Asad Ranrizai, were also killed in the clashes.

In the last 24 hours, security forces claimed to have killed 25 militants and injured 31 others. Five security forcesí personnel lost their lives in the clashes with the militants and 15 sustained injuries, the sources added.

Meanwhile, two soldiers, who were killed in the Saturday’s gunbattle with the militants, were laid to rest in the Kurram Agency. Lance Naik Hamid Hussain was buried in his ancestral graveyard in Mulana village while Abbas Ali was laid to rest in the Bughdi area.

Our correspondent adds from Mingora: Four militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in the Barikot area of Swat on Sunday. Sources said a clash took place in the Najigram area of Barikot after the militants opened fire on security forces. As a result, four militants, including Talimand, Rozi Khan, Taj Muhammad and Rahim Ghani, were killed. Officials said the action against the militants would continue till their complete elimination from the Swat Valley.
