ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday reiterated his commitment to PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif for early repealing of the 17th Amendment from the Constitution and all the dictatorial amendments that were introduced during the tenure of dictators, including removing the ban on third-time prime ministership.

The prime minister made a telephone call to Nawaz Sharif on Friday on his (Nawaz’s) birthday. Both sides — the PM House and Raiwind — termed the telephonic conservation a courtesy call, saying “It’s just to say a happy birthday.”

The prime minister told the PML-N Quaid that the nation would soon hear good news about undoing of amendments made by the past dictators. Gilani hoped that during the forthcoming year, both the major political parties of the country would jointly work to take the country out of the present challenges, strengthen the democratic institutions, bring prosperity and progress to the country besides ensuring well-being of the masses.

A few days ago, Prime Minister Gilani had held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore in which they also agreed for the early passage of the 18th Amendment in the Constitution for removal of the dictatorial amendments. Sources said during the telephonic conservations, Nawaz Sharif also advisedthe premier to implement the Supreme Court verdict on the NRO.

The sources said it was decided that Prime Minister Gilani would hold the meeting with Nawaz Sharif, but no date was fixed for the purpose. However, sources indicated that the meeting was expected within the next few days in Islamabad as the PML-N Quaid would be in the federal capital to chair the CEC of the party.

End.
