KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that an investigation team led by DIG East has been formed to investigate the unfortunate incident of Tuesday’s blast in Karachi, saying the blast was not attack on Karachi but on Pakistan.
Talking to media men here after attending funeral of Ranger’s official Abdul Razzak who sacrificed his life while stopping the terrorist, the interior minister said that there is contradictory report regarding the nature of the blast.
The minister said that investigation to be carried out from two aspects, as it seemed that the incident of fire after the blast was a planned conspiracy, adding the services of foreign team can be hired in the investigation process.
He said that PAF provided four vehicles to extinguish fire, adding the performance of Fire Brigade to be investigated.
Responding to a question, the minister said that there was no security lapse and the sacrifices of security officials should be commended, adding if the bomber managed to enter in the procession, the loss of life would have been bigger.
Rehman Malik said that the blast was carried out by non-state actors mentioned by the president in his Sunday’s speech and appealed the people to stay calm.
The minister said that the blast was an attempt to cripple the life all over the country, as Karachi is a trade hub of the country.
Answering to a question, the minister said that the federal government had given importance to statements of Quaid MQM, Altaf Hussain regarding Talibnization in Karachi and actions were taken in this regard.
Commenting on political unity, the minister said that all segments of life should put their personal interest aside and to work for national interests.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayers for six martyrs of Yaum-e-Ashur suicide blast in the main mourning procession yesterday, have been offered in Mehfil Shah Khurasan at Numaish, our sources reported Tuesday.
The Shiite ulema from across the country attended the funeral prayers amid massive security arrangements on the occasion. Maulana Taqi Shah led the prayers.
The participants were urged to stay peaceful on this occasion.
Also, the volunteers of Pasban-e-Aza and scouts besides police and the Rangers were deployed to guard off any untoward incident. The prayers participants were allowed entry only after the through physical search.
The people in large number arrived at Mehfil Shah Khurasan on foot, as there was no transportation available in the city.
According to reports, the most of the deceased would be laid to rest in Vadi-e-Hussain cemetery situated at Super Highway.
CCTV footages being used in probe: IG Sindh
IG Sindh Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khatak said video recordings are being used in probing the incidents of firing and blazing markets in Karachi.
Talking to media at the funeral of traffic police personnel Musharraf Baig, who was killed in Karachi suicide blast, IG Sindh said two investigation teams have been constituted under the command of SSP Raja Umar Khattab and DIG south Ghulam Nabi Memon.
IG Sindh said miscreants could be traced with the help of various footages.
He further said if the police had stopped enraged mob after the blast, the situation might have gone worst.
He said the material used in blazing the shops is being examined and it is premature to say anything about it.
