Rain improves situation at water reservoirs

ISLAMABAD: The recent heavy rain in all over the country has improved the situation at water reservoirs and the water reservoirs at Mangla and Tarbela Dam has gone up to to 1,311,000 acre feet.

According to Met Office, the weather system weakened due to severe snowfall in the in mountainous areas of the country and in the next 24 hours, the cold and dry weather to be expected in most parts of the country.

According to a private TV Channel, Mangla Dam recorded an increase of 16-foot to the water level in just one day rising to a level of 1089 feet.

According to Met Department Flood Center, the water reserves in the country soared as a result of recent showers with Mangla having inflow of 120,845 cusecs and outflow of 18,000 cusecs. The water level improved considerably both in Khanpur and Rawal dams after the recent heavy rains in the twin cities.

Tarbela Dam also registered inflow of 43,000 cusecs and outflow of 24,000 cusecs, rising to a level of 1417.66 from a level where it previously stood 48 feet above the extreme low level. Tarbela Dam level of water reservoir spread to 814,000 acre feet.

According to Met Office, maximum rain of 237 mm was recorded in Rawalkot while 227 mm in Pattan, 217 mm in Balakot, 183 mm Gari Dopata, 177 in Muzafarabad, 157 in Murree, 142 in Dir, 139 in Saydo Sharif, 126 in Kakool, 124 in Lower Dir, 106 mm in Kotli, 93 in Turbat, 76 in Islamabad, 75 in Mandibahauddin, 74 in Sakardu, 71 in Jehlum, 60 in Rawalpindi, 58 mm in Peshawar, 52 in Chitral, 49 in Quetta, 35 in Pasni, 29 Panjkor, 23 Joharabad, 21 in Sialkot, 18 mm in Sukkur, 13 mm in Gilgit, 9 mm in Lahore while 8 mm rain was recored in Faisalabad.

The Met Officer further stated that the light rain and snowfall in Pakistan’s Northern Areas and Kashmir to be continued till Friday. Seven feet snow was recorded in Kalm, 2 feet in Galiat while 1 foot snow was recordedin Matri.
