KHANEWAL, January 05 (Online): Five armed assailants gunned down five persons including a couple that made a court marriage, in Chak 20/V in the Khanewal suburbs early on Tuesday.

The killed were Mukhtar Ahmad and his wife Munawar Mai, two-year old son Mohsin, brother Manzoor Ahmad Chohan and mother Hafeezan.

The couple was gunned down due Munawar Mai's refusal to marry someone of her family's choice.

The assailants have been identified as Munawar Mai's three real brothers Muhammad Ashfaq, Muhammad Ejaz and Mumtaz and stepbrother Zahoor Ahmad.

The assailants left Manzoor's wife Kulsoom and two children unscathed.

They also severely thrashed Mukhtar's father Nazir Ahmad.

District Police Officer Khanewal Dr. Jamil Ahmad along with Deputy Superintendent of Police Saddar Khanewal Malik Aftab Ahmad and Station House Officer Khanewal Police Station Chaudhry Zakaullah inspected the murder site and assured prompt justice to relatives of the killed.

End.
