Pakistan and India in General Assembly

ISLAMABAD, January 06 (Online): The Kashmiris settled here celebrated the Right of Self-Determination day and called upon the United Nation for implementation of UN resolution No. S/1196 dated January 5, 1949 on Kashmir.

In this regard, the Kashmir Women Forum (KWF), an NGO representing the Kashmiri women of the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir, took out an agitation demonstration which was led by the Professor Khadija Turabi Acting President KWF here in front of the United Nations Offices on Wednesday.

The women protesters were carrying banners inscribed with "We demand for Implementation of UN Resolution about Kashmir", "Stop Indian forces from Killing innocent people in occupied Kashmir", Stop Indian State terrorism against women and Children in Kashmir".

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Ms. Khadija Turabi urged upon the Untied Nations to play a significant role in resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people and its own resolutions.

She urged the world to take notice of Indian brutalities in Kashmir and put pressure on New Delhi to give the right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir in accordance with the UN resolutions.

She said the UN resolutions were as relevant today as were 54 years ago and these resolutions will remain valid until Kashmiris are given their birth right to decide their future themselves.

She pointed out that India had no justification to continue its illegal occupation of Kashmiris' soil and the people of Kashmir will not rest content until this occupation is vacated.

She said that Kashmir was integral part of Pakistan and resolution of the Kashmir imbroglio will complete the map of Pakistan.

She also talked about how the Indian forces harass women, children and elders.

Indian forces were continuously violating human rights in held Valley, as killing of innocent people including children, women and aged persons had become routine activity in the Valley, she observed.

She said that the government should prepare its Kashmir policy according to the wishes of people otherwise people would revolt against it.

Later a memorandum addressed to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan was presented at the UN Offices at Saudi Pak Tower.

It may be mentioned here that in 1949, a resolution was adopted at the meeting of the UN Commission for Pakistan and India mandating a free and fair plebiscite to determine Kashmiris political destiny.

End.
