ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced that establishment of a campus of National College of Arts (NCA) at Rawalpindi has been approved in the Central Developmental Working Party meeting held recently. The project entails modification and repair of the Liaquat Memorial Hall where rooms will be converted into studios, lecture theatres, administrative and faculty offices as well as setting up of an art gallery.

Hostels for female and male students, visiting faculty hostel are also part of the plan. Liaquat Memorial Hall was handed over to NCA last year when President of Pakistan Gen. Pervez Musharraf inaugurated this second branch of NCA Lahore.

It is pertinent to mention here that the National College of Arts is the only institution in the public sector that is imparting art education in architecture, textile design, communication design, fine arts, musicology film television, multi media arts and cultural studies. It is expected that the Rawalpindi campus will contribute towards increasing a pool of professionals in these fields. It will also enhance educational opportunities to students of northern part of the country and improve academic and research capability of the institution.
