ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Medical Dental Council (PMDC) has directed students not to take admission in any colleges and universities not registered with the council and only 29 medical universities and colleges are registered with the PMDC in the country. It is merit mentioning here that earlier Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed PMDC and Federal Health Ministry to accommodate students of unregistered medical institutions into registered medical institutions of the country. Following the directives of Supreme Court, Health Ministry and PMDC in a meeting directed students not to take admission in unregistered medical colleges and universities of the country. According to the list of PMDC, the registered medical institutes in the Punjab includes F.M.H College of Medicine and Dentistry Lahore, Foundation University Medical College Rawalpindi, Islamic International Medical College Rawalpindi, Lahore Medical and Dental College Lahore, Shifa College of Medicine Islamabad, Margalla College of Dentistry Rawalpindi, Wah Medical College Wah Cantt, Faculty of Health Sciences/University of Faisalabad, Dental Section F.M.H College of Medicine and Dentistry Lahore, Dental Section Islamic International Medical College Rawalpindi and Dental Section Lahore Medical & Dental College Lahore. Likewise in Sindh, Aga Khan University Medical College Karachi, Baqai Medical College Karachi, Baqai Dental College Karachi, Fatima Jinnah Dental College Karachi, Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences/ISRA University Hyderabad, Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry Karachi, Dental Section Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry Karachi, Jinnah Medical and Dental College Karachi, Dental Section Jinnah Medical and Dental College Karachi, Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls Karachi, Ziauddin Medical College Karachi, Liaquat College of Medicine and Dentistry Karachi, Altamash College of Dental Medicine Karachi and Muhammad Medical College Mirpurkhas. Similarly, the registered medical institutes in NWFP include Frontier Medical College Abbottabad, Kabir Medical College/ GIMS Peshawar, Sardar Begum Dental College (for BDS) and Women Medical College Abbottabad. There is no private registered medical institution in Balochistan. PMDC has urged students not to take admission in unregistered medical institutes of the country as in doing so they would be putting their future at risk.
