Head of Jamia Hafsa,(Madarasa In Islamabad) Maulana Abdul Rasheed Ghazi has offered the women involved in the heinous business of prostitution, to abjure and he will arrange their marriages in noble families. He made this offer while announcing a Sharia’h court, which will try the persons involved in running prostitution dens in Islamabad. He has also given the government a time of one month to abolish all brothels in the limits of Islamabad or the Students of the Jamaia will take action against them.
The PPP, the PML(Q), and other left wing parties have condemned the “abduction” of a woman namely Auntie Shamim, along with two other women, who were allegedly running a brothel in Islamabad, by female students of Jamia Hafsa. The “abductees” were released after they confessed to running a brothel and announced to abjure in the presence of media. They, however, changed their statement later.
According to police, some 160 complaints had been lodged against auntie Shamim by the residents of sector G/6. However, no action was taken against her as she had been paying a huge amount to area police for running her brothel. Police in fact raided the brothel in 1998
and some arrests were made but after the instructions of some high-ups the matter was quashed and the brothel was in business again.
Sources say that scores of brothels are being run in Islamabad in connivance with the police, where hundreds of poor girls, several of them abducted, are being forced for prostitution.

Behead the prostitutes, pimps and destroy their brothels...!
If the government is appending the letters of Islamic Republic with the coutry name and claim to be an Islamic State, then why they do not stop prostitution in the country? This country is mainly influenced by USA, UK and a few other countries to name.
Majority of the people in the government offices are secular (approximately 90%), therefore they insist for the continuation of such system which could satisfy their own desire up to some extent.
I am concerned with some folks in this blog that they say too many reports have been made to police, but they fail to realize that when a nation's police is dead then how come they may take action to stop such evil doing in the country?
No one is really working for the ultimate survival and harmony of this country. Everybody is concerned about himself/herself and how to fill their pockets. Each president and prime minister comes with empty pocket and leaves the country in chaos and of course with their pockets filled of money.
When Maulan Sahib said that these evil doing should be stopped, then why most people are unhappy regarding it? If those people who are distressed to hear such stateent from Maulana Sahib then either they are Kafir or they are Munafeq.

Prostitution can only be minimized never eradicated
Prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. Since the first day a woman realized a man wanted her and she could get money for it it has existed in one form or the other. The thing is no matter what you do there are ALWAYS going to be a few easy women who are going to sell themselves REGARDLESS of their financial status.. and more predictably there will always be men willing to pay for their services. Prostitution serves an important purpose for those who don't have the means to get married to vent their frustration. Otherwise it could lead to a lot of rapes, kidnappings and other sexual crimes. Its a necessary evil. I know this point of view will be incredibly controversial for most and is not exactly religious but it is REAL.

as we know that the name of our country is Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and inside which we see that most of the people including leaders are unaware of the basic principles of Islam, which we can say is due to the influence of power by foreign countries and institutions through most of the leaders, bureaucrates. as we have seen from school level to graduate level how Islamic studies subject is treated all of the focus is towards english and other subjects,even after graduation a person is not aware that what is right and what is wrong according to our religion Islam.the government we can say is deliberately involved in this as we have seen that Lal Masjid incident has brought few aspects as of anti shamim that in 1998 an action was taken against her brothel but it was ineffective and uptill 2007 no action was taken.

Why is that Mullahs always raise their voice about unethical women? ( not that I am in favor of prostitution) but the question is, who goes to these women? Huddod ordinance was a slap in the name of Islam for punishment of adulty, Surah Baqarah (chapter 2) details the requirement of the witness to adultry not the guess. I recommend Mohammad Asad's or Mohsin Khan's English translation (Urdu ones are usually translated by same Mullahs who when talk about paradise translate zawj or aswaaj as Wife and Wives instead of Spouse. as in Yasin, chapter 36)and according to what they perceive.
I hear women after women being immoral, but who do they commit immoral acts with? Where are those men? Why do we not see any men getting punished?
I am disappointed to see that our people have 2 extremes, one who are clueless about the teachings of Islam and the other who think that they knowit all and a women should be house arrest. She needs permission of a "MAN" to breathe.
The responsibitly of the Govt is to provide the decent environment. But how can they? Have you walked down a bazaar? How many "MEN" will try to touch a woman's or a girl's body?
Govt can't be policing these people, it is the knowledge from the Quran and Sunnah that will give people Allah counciousness and love that will keep them from abusing these poor women.
Having said that, the Quran and Sunnah don't mean the interpretation of the same "MEN" who abuse women. I guess it is time that Pakistanis use the internet in some useful way and research how women were treated in the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

The solution to eradicate prostitution may lie in the moral behavior of men. They need to "lower their gaze" treat every woman as they would like to treat their own sisters, mothers and daughters. Now I don't mean that all men are indicent, I only wish that there were more of the ones who don't go to these women and the ones who don't sit on their ...... and want to lock up women because they have screwd up ideas about proper conduct in Islam.

Mullahs always raise questions over female related matters.I never saw or heard that these reliogiouse clerics ever raised their voices over murders, thefting, looting and corruption etc.It seems that these mullahs has been sent by god on earth just for keeping an eye on womens activity .Many mullahs are involving in have sex pleasure with their minor male students.They do these practactices even in their madrassas.
I admitt that prostitution is haram in our religion.I request dr ghazi that instead of making caos & unrest in country he should co-operate with govt in finding out solutions to solve this matter peace fuly .Thanks

Prostitution is better than begging or self killing or family wife children killing for poverty
I hate those who express disgust for brothel running. in these days, it is very difficult for 90% pakistani to provide proper food for the wife and children. is not t better to please one customer and sacrifice one person cunt or buttock for the feeding of all family members including children. the people have started suciding or killing their innocent children for being unable to get two time food for the members of the family. Please do not burn your conscience if any female of your family work outside and pass a luxurous life herself and properly feed and cloth the other members and carry out proper medical treatment of their parents. i think they are brave people. they should be encouraged. bye and take care

Yes I do agree with you about this being a social issue and yes Ansar Burney is one of the most regardful person to be involved in this area. However I think there is a lot more to this issue and sotry than we see or know or is brought out. Not meaning to pin point the people who brought this one instance in public since I dont know them or their intentions but as a general rule there are plenty of such people who from time to time make an effort to gain exposure by amplifying on such issues and they are politically charged.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?
I would like to ask one simple question based on islamic principles,
1) A muslim is directed to refrain from speculating in any matter.
2) Islamic law requires that there are at least two legitimate witnesses who have witnessed an act of you know what we are discussing.
Only because something doesnt fit the standards of the eyes witnessing something doesnt allow one to go to the extremes of palcing such blames on anyone.
Does Dr. Ghazi and his associates campaigning on this issue have any first hand knowledge of such existence? OR it is only being speculated because someone was seen in a dress that does not match the approval levels of Dr. Ghazi &/or his associates?

RESPONSE: They should have a meeting of the area community & notify the people in business to move out of the area in a given period of time, if that does not occur the community should seek authority's assistance in dismantling.

RESPONSE: If police is corrupted to the extent we all know, then what would the police do? They may retaliate on outspoken people of the community by fabricating matters against them. If police action is required it should be directed by higher authorities. While people should refrain from speculating at places & people without any concrete evidence that what they suspect to be happening is what it is and not just because something doesnt fit the level of thought of a given individual or individuals as they see it.
3) What do you think about Mualana Ghazi’s offer to the women involved in prostitution?
In all sincerity it has the appearance of the best possible scenario only if it can be practically implemented and not just a bunch of politically charged up rheotoricf, while he should also remember that Chastity is a prime requirement when it comes to proposing or match making. May Allah SWT cause some good at Dr. Ghazi's hands but without any violence.

Where this came from and who said that there is no law, there are sets of laws to deal with such situations and issues but they may not be enforced and are collecin dust because the law enforcement authorities are too busy making good of every evil situation that benefits them personally. Not meaning to say that everyone in the law enforcement is corrupt but those who are not, not only their hands but also their feet are tied by the corrupt ones.

Its astonishing to see news clips of burqa donning bamboo bearing women on the roof of that Lal Masjid/The Hafsa institution.
It goes to show how dominated those poor ladies are by the brainwashing of these molvies.
The molvies who charge to help slaughter an animal but wont teach another person how to do it themselves.
The molvies who lick their fingers after gulping down the halwa sent by neighbors for all the people.
I can go on forever describing the basic attributes of the "clergy" which is very much forbidden by the faith however the clergies dont tell anyone that they need to be educated enough with the teachings of faith so they are not dependant on another to tell them how and what to do.
It is the responsibility of each individual to appropriately learn all the basics of faith and not to look for a molvi to give them a ruling on every little matter.
If each individual in their ownselves is properly learned the molvies will go out of business pronto. However, it is the very weakness of our society among others that we dont learn ourselves and depend on a figure like ourselves to tell us what and what not, while every human is prejudiced in one way or another and so are the molvies, as long as there will be people depending on the molvies you are not going to get anywhere.

Mullahs make money by selling our religion. They get money from the highest bidder. Look at the murders in the name of religion. Look at the Mullah inspired anarchy in Wazirastan. When Arabs paid more money, Mullahs gave fatwas in their favor. Then USA or Pak government became the highest bidder, so some of the Mullahs switched.
Look at the atrocities between Shias and Sunnis from Parachinar to DI Khan, to Karachi. Look at how many Mullahs drive big cars or live in big homes. Just ask them the source of their wealth.
It will be the Pakistani-people who decide if selling religion is worse for our society or selling one's body.
A just society should take care of their women, so they don't have to sell their bodies. And a just society should keep their Mullahs under strict control, so they don’t sell the religion.
Just like we are trying to control the prostitution, we must uphold true justice. All corrupt Mullahs who live beyond their means should be punished as well.
A bigger punishment should be given to those Mullahs who not only sell Islam, but also bring AK-47 in the holy and sacred areas such as mosques.
Our mosques should be the symbols of ultimate purity, cleanliness, and righteousness. They instead have been turned into the dens of suicide bombers and terrorists. So unfortunate to see that the Mullahs have pimped even the holiest of holy places.

It is good to close brothels, but before that find out why these women become prostitutes or why they are forced to this. You can arrange the marriages of a hundred prostitutes, but do you think prostitution will end with this? First of all find what the main reasons are and then you can stop it if you really want.

Thus far this has been the longest thread of comments I found on PakTribune. However, I am ashamed to see the cross-section of people who appear to have Muslim aliases or nicknames and comment in the manner they do on this particular topic.
It is astonishing to see how many people find this topic so very interesting while some "appear" to be ladies, Allah SWT only knows if they are or just pretending, and their styles of discussing on this matter.
I literally feel ashamed to call myself a muslim when I see how some of those who appear to be muslims have taken a position to comment on this very serious matter in a humiliating manner.
May Allah SWT guide us all to the right path, the path of those who are blessed by HIM, ameen.

Oh yeah! Human Rights Issue, well in that case I think we should first send Ansar Burni to the US of A since the prostitution epidemic is more prevalent there in many forms.

The root causes of prostitution
It would be erroneous to think that prostitution does not exist in Islamic theocracies like Saudi Arabia and Iran. Converting our country into a theocracy will only deter our progress and will not improve anything else. These women are prostitutes because (1) there is growing poverty in the country (2) Rule of law needs to be strengthened. (3) Men go to prostitutes because a woman for them is an alien object in this segregated and highly paternalistic society of ours. Jamia Hafza or even a khalifa can not change these deeply entrenched problems. Aunty Shamims will continue to exist. May get more expensive if the Khalifa arrives.

It is needless to say, but all of us know these brothels are actually 'protected' by the filthy rich, high ranking officials, MNA's and even ministers. The government has always known that such brothels operate openly, catering to the rich and powerful.
I think if the government could not take any action, then as a nation, it is our responsibility to take action, to show the government what nation power is.

In the Sub-continent, the borders were divided in 1947 in such a way as to result in a relatively weak East and West Pakistan. Nationalism and separation were then instigated to further separate the Muslims of the area. Iran and Iraq waged an almost 10 year war with each other starting in 1980 over the very same Shatt al Arab disputed waterway in which the British sailors were caught. Iraq’s claims over Kuwait can be traced back to the carve up of the Middle East after World War 1. Other long lasting boundary disputes can be seen in the Levant and Kashmir.
These false borders have not only have allowed the Ummah to be consumed by nationalism, but they have also allowed foreign colonial powers to interfere with the affairs of the Muslims. The creation of Israel is perhaps the greatest example of colonial interference. An artificial state was created in the heart of the Muslim world and sustained by the West with the aid of treacherous rulers it placed in neighbouring lands. CONDIMING DEMOLISHING OF MOSQUES AND MADARASAS

These are the points I wish you all note regarding the destruction of the massajid (also called mosques) and madrassahs (schools of Islamic education) by the authorities in Pakistan. Please note that the reasons for demolishing the massajid and madrassahs given are mixed. Sometimes we are told that they are security threat, and sometimes we are told that they are built illegally. As for security threat, all masjids are public places and no attack has been launched on anyone from a masjid. The government is using this as a lame excuse to do whatever it wants to do. The attack in Karachi was from a petrol/gas pump station, intended to harm an army commander, and other attacks were at or near bridges. Is anyone taking action against such attack launching pads? Why go after masjids when they are meant and used only for the worship of Allah?
The other reason given is alleged illegal construction. We want to emphasize that they are not all illegal. The masjid that was bulldozed, masjid Hamzah was a built 100 years ago. The other masjid bulldozed last Saturday was built by police, not by public.
The 30 other massajid that have been slated for demolition by February 3, 2007 include Masjid Shuhada' (martyr's masjid) built by none other than the then President Ziaul Haque. The masjid close to the famous Faisal Masjid, Masjid Qasmimiyyah and the Peace masjids are also targeted for demolition. They were both built with full authority from the government.
One should note however that there are Christian slums and Churches, which are built illegally but now legalized by the authorities. Why this attitude? The government is targeting only the Muslim places of worship?
Its population is 165 million. The Islamic World expects leadership from Pakistan because it is the nation of Muslims created for one reason: Islam. It is also a nuclear power. The President, General Parvez Musharraf who acquired power through military coupe is a dictator. Under General Parvez Musharraf, the constitution has been altered, and opposition has been silenced. The country is run primarily by ordinances. Pakistan has lost its membership in the Commonwealth because under General Parvez Musharraf it is no longer a democracy. He is an absolute dictator. Under his command some Islamic schools have been bombed and destroyed.
It is not surprising that the media has done a poor job of covering the important news of masjid demolitions. The brief mention in foreign newspapers does not show the picture of the masjid and just describes the government line. It is important that we spread the news quickly and on a large scale. We need to stop demolition of the most important symbols of Islam, the massajid. They are the backbone of an Islamic society. The government has declared a total of 84 massajid and schools illegal and targets for demolition. 30 such institutions are already given a date of February 3rd, 2006 to be evacuated so they could be destroyed. The student population so far is undaunted and is resolute. It will defend their schools.
Loss of life is expected from any further government action. It is important to note that the Qurans have been in the massajid when they were bulldozed. The demolishing crew ignored a p lea to allow them to remove the Qurans. This is a clear challenge to all Muslims. Allah's houses and His book are under physical attack in the homeland of the Muslims of the subcontinent. Is there anyone to help defend?

I think this a serious human rights problem in Pakistan and in my opinion the best person to solve this issue is Mr Ansar Burney.
Mr Burney who has been declared as international human rights 'HERO' by the United States of America in 2005 is a great person who got released thousands of innocent underage child camel jockeys from private prisons and 'Modern Day Slavery' in Middle Eastern countries.

These Muslims are again citizens of Pakistan, citizens who rather then being protected by their rulers are actually being killed by them to please America. There has never been a greater physical and institutional threat to the integrity of Pakistan since the creation of Bangladesh.

The hounds smelt the blood the moment an insipid minister laid ceremoniously the first brick to restore a mosque. Ever since they are digging their teeth deeper and deeper. Lal Masjid masked men had the audacity to hold a few police officials and their van as hostages till their workers were released, which were. They warned the video shop owner to close their business and in the process raided a few shops and burnt cassettes valuing over Rs.15 lacs in a bonfire. Women have been warned not to drive and reportedly the registration numbers of the vehicles driven by them are being noted by the moral police force of Lal Masjid. A Shariat Court of 10 Muftis has also been instituted to try out the cases violating Shariat.
This all is being done ostensibly and shrewdly in the name of Islam and Shariat, which no Muslim can afford to oppose for fears of grave reprisals. Next, they take up the plank of rooting out ‘fuhashi’ and immorality from the society which again no one in his/her proper senses can disagree to Now prostitution is a two way traffic. In it both genders – male as well as female – are involved and cannot be take place without the participation of both. However, for eliminating it why target the women only? Why not watch and ward the suspected houses and warn the ‘visitors’ to stop their immoral visitations? Make a list of those frequenting such hideouts, take their pictures entering and leaving the den and make it public for all to know and ridicule them. The alleged brothel houses will automatically vanish because of starvation.
Restraining 'immorality' in the society makes sense. And, for that the religious elements (and why not all others also?) should educate the society by word of mouth and literature - not by physical acts and threats by the clerks and clergy. Emphasis should be laid on 'Ikhlaqiat' (character building) rather than on an overdose of religiosity and that too of a specific school of thought only.
Again, the limits for such 'immorality' must be clearly defined, for, these can be stretched to the 'shaving of the beard' and 'driving of a car by a female’, depending upon the whims of our so called Khateebs, Ulema and Mushaikh. A clear cut demarcation between healthy entertainment and 'fuhashi' must be made. Unfortunately, the present trend of the mullah is just to target the women and any thing allowing them even a remote breath of fresh air - education, sports, employment, medical treatment by male specialists etc. is straight away declared immoral by the so called muftis. That is depriving more than half the population of its due share in the nation building activities. Who said that," give me the educated mothers and I will give you a good nation"? I think Napoleon did.
Lastly, it is not for the government only not to allow a state within a state but it is the responsibility and duty of all its right thinking citizens also to thwart such fissiparous designs of all those who were from the day one opposed to the creation of a democratic, modern and forward looking Pakistan, and who are now bent upon achieving their nefarious end ironically in the name of Islamisation of Islamabad and Pakistan.

At the outset, I would just like to add that "Madames" in Isb is a phenomenon that is quite real. I can say that some confidence because of first-hand knowledge. We were a couple of guys working in Constitution Avenue after we graduated from engineering college. I learned later on that our land lady (who was a gyneacologist btw.) in G-3 (If I recall correctly) was involved in supplying girls to ppl. It was a big house, and she had rented us a portion of it. Now when I look back, I'm almost certain that her clients were almost surely the rich snobs in Islamabad. Also, given her occupation, I strongly suspect that she used black-mailing as a lethal device against women. If you think about it, its very simple to blackmail women in our "Islamic" society. e.g., simply track college going girls who are having sleeping around, get incontrovertible evidence and bingo... you're in business. A second scenario would be to track extra-maritial affairs. As things stand out, no girl, well almost all women with the exception of few, would like their families to find out about their sexual lives (if any), no matter how modern they appear to be (After all, they DO wanna get married respectfully dont they?).
If anybody can recall the fairly recent "internet caffe" CD's of Pakistani women "doing it" inside the booths... well that was almost certainly blackmail.
So, to wrap it all up: Yes poverty is definitely a cause. But there are other causes as well, which must be looked into.
Last but not least: this is no way to go about such a sensitive issue. If they have evidence then there many excellent and far more effective options available to them. It seems they just would like to milk the situation for political gains. And also, the thousands of women who are there? Are they married? what about their families?
However, the prostituion/blackmail problem is there. And this is just Islamabad. God knows what goes on around in the rest of our big (and small?) cities.

After Mullahs succeed, we all will make lines to the UN camps to collect a kilo of wheat flour, then live and die drinking sewer infested water.
Green lush lawn of the mansions in Punjab and Sindh will turn into heaps of trash, and the ordinary people will suffer from the recurring famine. This will not be too different from other Mullah jannats called Somalia, and Afghanistan.
Our military that is now known to be the peace keepers of UN, will be split along the lines of Shias, Wahabis, and Brelvis. Instead of Pakistanis bringing peace to Sierra Leon, we surely will have NATO troops working as peacekeepers right in the Middle of Punjab.
In that dark scenario, only Mullahs will be happy. They will sit in their darkened hujras, eat naans, and talk about angels, heaven, and 72 hoors. Surely then, they would have achieved the modern Khilafa just like they have done in Afghanistan and Somalia.
