The cover of Newsweek’s last issue dubbing Pakistan as the most dangerous country in the world, not merely stunned Pakistanis but the entire world, which earlier considered Iraq and Afghanistan as the most dangerous states.
The cover stating " the most dangerous country in the world is not Iraq. But it’s Pakistan" sent a wave of shock and anger all over Pakistan with analysts fearing the Newsweek’s move as part of ongoing campaign against the country’s nuclear programme.
Ironically, the Newsweek’s report does not contain any comparison or facts and figures about suicide bombings, killing of civilians, and personnel, and other terrorist incidents in Pakistan and Iraq.
According to analysts, the Newsweek’s report is totally baseless, and nothing more than a cock and bull story. Surprisingly, the Newsweek analyst totally forgets the facts that in Iraq, killing of US soldiers, hundreds of civilians, Iraqi troops, and suicide bombing have been an everyday affair.
Around 4000 US soldiers have so far been killed in Iraq since 2004, whereas the entire infrastructure of the country has been destroyed by everyday suicide bombings and bomb blasts.
The analyst also forgets the fact that there is no normal life in Iraq, while Pakistan is the second fastest growing country in Asia.
Here are some questions.

2)Is this a calculated attempt to prove that Pakistan’s nuclear pro gramme is not safe and may go in hands of extremists?

I visited Lahore from South Indian city of Madaras to see one of my friends in Lahore in 1998. (Now settled in Luxembourgh) It was the holy month of Ramazan probably January.

All of a sudden, I heard ear-tearing firings and screamings of people from a nearby graveyard.
I didn't know what had happened actually, Police and fire fighters hooters patrolled through Mcleod road.
Later, I came to know that some anti-shia elements sprayed bullets on the participants of Shia gathering who were engaged in their prayers in Mominpura Graveyard. The incident was widely covered by the world media.According to newspapers more than atwenty shia were killed and hundreds injured, were they not muslim.
Secondly, what we people (muslims) did to ahmedi brothers. People of the Himalayan Mountain Region in Afghanistan killed score of Ahmadai (Now non slims, according to so-called Pakistani sharia law)
were butchered to death.
(I am not Ahmedi).
Will people living in that part of the world (Afghanistan will ever be in peace)> Holy Prophet (PBUH) never ordered killing of any human being, be he an infidel.
Believe me, neither America nor Europe or any other country of the world is responsible for bad days of Pakistan, but they are purely "Mullah" who enforced their own "Sharia". US is continously taking offensive measures against pakistan as it is evident from the dual policy of US to weaken pakistan both internally and externally.on one side US is using our ports and taking logistic support from pakistan and on other side US is continuously weakening our army by compelling us to fight against our own tribal population.so many innocent citizens are being killed in the so called war against terrorism which is not really our war.surely,pakistan is facing trouble in improving the law-in-order situation but this can be solved by negotiation and dialogue with the local tribes,proving them education,medical and all basic necessities of life and finally marginallizing the few terrorists and extremists.without support of local tribes no army even the US army can eliminate terrorists.America also knows the facts but their aims are not to clear pakistan from terrorism,their real aim is to occupy the geografically important land of pakistan and for this purpose US is openly providing militant support and nuclear technology to india.under the supervision of AMERICA india is pressurizing pakistan both at the borders voilating the seize fire and also the Indus water agreement and also by supporting the terrorists.without indian support terrorists can not fight against pak army.

I have seen various other indicators in several reliable web sites about prevalence of social and moral crimes in different countries. Pakistan is not prominent in such lists. For example, South Africa is presently the world leader in such crimes. Even our dear Great Briton is very high in the list of armed robberies, where a major robbery is being committed every 3 minutes! It would interest the readers ( not the Newsweek) to know that, according to the "List of countries by homicide rate per year per 100,000 inhabitants", published by the "National Center for Health Statistics, Vital Statistics". dated Dec. 2006, Pakistan is listed at the bottom of the list, with only 0.05 homicide cases per 100,000 inhabitants. I am an American born and breed and I am married to a "muslim pakistani man" and very proud to be. I think that, the "political" stuff has alot to do with what is going on there. Pakistan is not dangereous to others, but only to themselves!!!!!! They are fighting against eachother and for what reason?
All I have heard and seen for the last few months are a lot of innocent people with families getting killed for no reason at all. There are so many good muslims that are just trying to make bread and butter for their families. Of course, we don't hear about the ones that are just trying to live day to day with their families. They are the ones trying to live a nice and peaceful life, but how can they when there is fighting in the streets and all over their country?

No stability in Pakistan
I believe there is a lot of truth to the Newsweek article. A war is taking place in Iraq therefore it cannot be compared to Pakistan where Pakistanis wage war on themselves almost daily...where it is common to simply kill others whom you disagree with and it is becoming common place to kill women who dare to speak with any rationale or intellect, and where anyone opposing the West is considered a hero regardless what they themselves do as long as they feed a few poor children. Indeed a double standard exists in Pakistan where mass murders by some is seen as Islamic and acceptable. There are no real rules or laws or order to speak of in Pakistan or rather there is little enforcement of laws, corruption is rampid, and there is no unity. This is what makes Pakistan one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Pakistanis are by far their worse enemy and if they don't learn how to resolve differences and conflicts within their own country how do they ever expect to improve the state of their country across the board?
I seriously doubt that Newsweeks article is an attempt to undermine Pakistan's Nuclear Program though it is obvious that Pakistan has no national or even partial stability or a strong and lucid government power at present to control a Nuclear Power. If Pakistan cannot control its own country how do they expect the world to believe they are capable of maintaining full control over a Nuclear Program considering the amount of terrorist activity within Pakistan? Indeed, the mere thought of Pakistan having a Nuclear Program at this time is absolutey ridiculous as they have exhibited no civil obediance or control.
Pakistan needs a lot of help but foreign forces are not the answer. They must fight their own civil war and thus establish some type of order and figure out how to govern their country for themselves. Until Presidential candidates can rally without fear to spread their ideas/plans to the people of Pakistan the people will never be able to freely choose a leader who actually represents the people and the dreams they have for their country.
Let's face it, the Newsweek article was not just some propaganda plot to discredit Pakistan in order to unjustly deny them permission for a Nuclear Program nor is it a plot for foreign forces to enter Pakistan. The world is not blind to what is taking place in Pakistan. Foreign forces are already in Pakistan and have paid Pakistan a great deal of money for their assitance in capturing terrorists which seems to have bared little progress. It makes one wonder if Pakistanis are united in truly wanting terrorists out of Pakistan or not. While Pakistan has asked for help, there is nothing foreign forces can do. Pakistanis are going to have to fight this civil war among themselves and hopefully the good guys will win. At present, Pakistan is anything but a God fearing Country.
There is No National healthcare, No National mandatory education, No rights for women or children. Without these important necessities Pakistan will never become anything other than what it is today, an unstable third world country.

The report is not true. The country has been in mushraff's hands for 7 years. Its beeen the safest than ever. Pakistan is not the most dangerous country in the world. Law and order in pakistan is not as bad as in Iraq, Afganistan, Somalia or Palestine. In fact it is much better than these countries. It can be the most dangerous country only if the nuclear weapons falls into the hands of Taliban or Alqaeda. The army is only half talibanised and only half of Pakistanis support alqaeda. By looking at this support base there is no chance that the nuclear bombs will be controlled by them and army will always be in control of the nuclear weapons. So Pakistan is far away from being the actually the most dangerous country. Even if the whole army gets talibanised the only countries who will get nuked will be china, India, Iran and Afganistan. So I dont know why Newsweek is concerned about Pakistan as USA will never be affected neither will Europe or UK.

I am flabbergasted on the extent of brazen impudence displayed by the Newsweek in its report which classified Pakistan as the most dangerous country of the world. The report is a glaring example of ambush journalism employed for malicious intents. Or else, has the Newsweek also classified Pakistan as the world's moronest nation as well, which can willingly accept any nonsense anyone can cook-up?
In my earlier reaction published on these pages, I have given enough reliable and verifiable facts against the Newsweek report to prove it being slanderous. Here, I am giving a simple challenge to the Newsweek to save its name from being named "The Ambush-Journal" of the year, by authenticating its report with documented evidences from the US Foreign Office, UN HR Department, or administration Department of any international organization employing staff on world-wide assignments about what rate of "difficulty allowance" or dangerous duty station multiplying factors to the salaries and emoluments, are being applied and paid to the staff by these organizations for their staff posted in Pakistan. They should also give verifiable figures for other difficult countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Somalia, Sierra Leone, etc., in comparison to Pakistan.
I have seen various other indicators in several reliable web sites about prevalence of social and moral crimes in different countries. Pakistan is not prominent in such lists. For example, South Africa is presently the world leader in such crimes. Even our dear Great Briton is very high in the list of armed robberies, where a major robbery is being committed every 3 minutes! It would interest the readers ( not the Newsweek) to know that, according to the "List of countries by homicide rate per year per 100,000 inhabitants", published by the "National Center for Health Statistics, Vital Statistics". dated Dec. 2006, Pakistan is listed at the bottom of the list, with only 0.05 homicide cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Following selection from the list of 112 countries can give a very good idea about the defamation attempt of the Newsweek against Pakistan:

In the context of emergency
There is no denying the fact that the newsweek's claim is very weak, lacks credibility, reflects bias. However, the poitical instability which has been further triggered by unjustified imposition of emergency (in fact martial law) shows that driven by lust for unlimited power a single person, in a bid to prolong his power, has brought the country on the verge of disaster with a high probability of anarchy and chaos likely to follow. It is this brinkmanship that has the potential to, God Forbid, give credence to the newsweek's dubbing pakistan as the most dangerous nation in the world. I have read the whole article and I do not agree with its contents. There is a lot of difference between writers who write stories with out having ground realities and those who narrate their stories while sitting across the border.
I am confident that views expressed in this cover story are not the views of US government. If we go and look the history of terrorism in Pakistan, it was sponsored by the then US government to defeat the Russian forces in Afghanistan. Pakistan is an old ally of US government and therefore took the help of US government to wage a war against Russian government.
Consequently, Russians forces were defeated and left Afghanistan. US government won the proxy war fought by the Mujahideen of Pakistan in Afghanistan. Osama Bin Laden was one of commanders of Mujahideen and fought the war till the end with the support of the then US government.
Pakistan paid a heavy price for fighting US war in Afghanistan to defeat Russian forces. After 9/11 attacks, US made responsible Osama Bin Laden for the attacks on Pentagon and the World Trade Centre.
Since then, Pakistan is fighting war on terror for US government against Osama Bin Laden and his accomplices. Hundred of thousands of people have been killed so far by the terrorists in all major cities of Pakistan which also include security personnel.
Government of Pakistan has handed over hundreds Al-Qaeda activists to US government. The prevailing situation in Pakistan is not because that it is the most dangerous nation on the earth. The fact is that the gift of terrorism in Pakistan is given to people of Pakistan by the US government.
The ground reality is that at the time when NEWSWEEK published its cover story about Pakistan, on the same day the US Ambassador to Pakistan Ms. Anne W. Patterson came from Islamabad to Karachi and met with Benazir Bhutto at Bilawal House. She then went to the offices of several newspapers. Yesterday, America Ambassador went to meet the Chief Minister of Punjab in his Lahore office.
Had the situation been critical as described in NEWSWEEK in the cover story, how come the US Ambassador met with Banazir Bhutto, went to meet the editorial staff of several newspapers and staff of GEO TV station in Karachi. Yesterday she went to meet with the Chief Minister of Punjab.
The news of the visit of American Ambassador is published in all the leading newspapers of Pakistan. The "Cakewalk War" in Iraq was supposed to be over in a few weeks and to pay for itself out of Iraqi oil revenues. The war is now five years old and has cost American taxpayers, and those left dependent on government programs by decades of a welfare state, $1 trillion in out-of-pocket and already incurred future costs.Full of hegemonic hubris, the US government does not understand that US power and hegemony have always depended, not on missiles and military force, but on the financial power conveyed by the dollar's role as reserve currency.

It made for interesting reading. I enjoyed reading the article. That being said, it was factually scant. It did seem to focus on various players on the stage and various on-the-street sources to which the reporters had access.
Although it is nice to share a kilo of meat with the local terrorist and report it on the page, I certainly have a few Pakistani within the government whom I would rather spend an evening with if given the option.

The Supreme Court, in trying to resolve the issue, has added its opinion to the politicisation of the Lal Masjid siege by returning it to the Ghazi clan, and Siddiqi is exploiting this trend to the hilt. He has put all and sundry, including the state institutions, under challenge by saying that Pakistan’s war against terrorism was “a war of infidels, killing its own citizens to serve the interests of the United States”. For more analysis in line with Al Qaeda, Siddiqi has warned “the government that the situation in Swat will be more dangerous for the army than that in the Tribal Areas and Balochistan”.
Many aspects of Lal Masjid have been ignored by the media. For instance, the transformation of Al Qaeda into a sectarian organisation was predated by the sectarianism of Lal Masjid whose founder was killed in 1998 because of his deep sectarian involvement. The vigilante onslaught of his sons running Lal Masjid was clearly sectarian but it was ignored by the media and the people. The judgment that restored the mosque to the clan has also overlooked this aspect. The Aziz-Rashid duo began earlier this year with a clear sectarian intent when they abducted a lady in Islamabad after accusing her of running a brothel. Only the BBC website recorded the charge made by the lady that, while they were dragging her family out.

Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin (group), owners of Daily Pakistan and Friday Times Pakistan are masters of yellow journalism based on sectarian terrorism in Pakistan. We have no concern about their sectarian thoughts but major concern is their fascist behavior against other groups in the light of their friendship with Mush and access to CIA, both are using this gang for the purpose creating anarchy in the country. It has bunch of like minded columnists who are also burning in the fire of sectarianism, a few are top supporter of Salman Rushdie and atheists which are continuously busy in writing hate articles. Basic ideology of this group is based on hate, dividing society on sectarian basis, pushing Pakistan Army against civilians, and posing as friends of Iranian Clergy (Iranians must be aware of such foolish friends). This group was among top supporter of Army attack on Jamia Hafsa along with Mir Khalil Ur Rahman(Jang-group), used all means to spread hatred against Jamia Hafsa students due to sectarian hate. As a result of which Pakistan Army Jawans are still busy in paying price of their religious war. Hundred of Army persons and civilians have died and massacre of Jamia Hafsa and burning of Quran and Mosque has given a permanent notoriety to Army generals in Islamic history.
When some specific extremist groups and terrorist circles started to propagate against Jamia Hafsa and Lal Masjid, long lasting effects of such hate campaign were visible, but Tariq Majeed Butcher and Ashfaq Pervez Kiani, both were out of senses those days for next promotion. Pakistan Army on permanent basis against own civilians.
Now present posting of Shams Ul Mulk as caretaker Chief Minister on the orders of World Bank and as such right away jumping in war against civilians at Swat was not surprise. Now civilians are being killed with gunship helicopters .

According to a similar study conducted and reported in a recent issue of the Forbes magazine, has published a list of most dangerous countries of the world, Pakistan is in the middle of the list. Interestingly, these results are further confirmed by another survey conducted by a group of the US universities, which has listed the United States of America as the second most dangerous country in the world, trailing North Korea. YOU CAN'T HAVE NUKES IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE CHARGE THAT IS ENRICHED URANIUM.ANY ONE BELITTING DR KHAN AND TALKS OF HANDING HIM OVER TO FOREIGNERS MUST HAVE NO PLACE IN PAKISTAN, LET ALONE THE POLITICAL POWER.EXREMISTS AND OTHER JOKES AKIN TALKS ARE JUST PROPPED UP FANTACIES TO TARGET OUR ONLY SURVIVAL, WHICH ARE OUR NUCLEAR ASSETS. All the media in USA is controlled by Jewish, therefore this statement of Pakistan being a dangerous country seems working for the Israelis more than Iran effort of becoming a nuclear power, which as a matter of fact Iran is not try to do anyway. but again it is a propoganda of Jewish media. We should not care about what others say but about the present situation. Now the authorities of Pakistan are opening more and more new fronts day by day to earn more and more money to run their regime. Certainly, they will have to give some proof to others that Pakistan is the most dangerous country and the government is doing the best. Why was Pakistan not most dangerous before US started spending money on the so called war on terrorism. The government is compelling the affected population rise against its aggressive policies and shows to the world by attacking them and then advertising them to be the worst terrorists when they retaliate.

Pakistan has provided the highest number of peace keepers to the UN for its efforts in all troubled areas. It has also suffered the highest number of casualties in such efforts.Pakistan undoubtedly, is the most effective and useful US ally in its war against terror. It has proved through demonstration being a reliable and safe nuclear power which has capabilities since over eleven years. This is enough proof of its nuclear arsenal being in safe hands.
This Newsweek report defies all ground realities. According to a similar study by the magazine Forbes, which has published the list of most dangerous countries of the world, Pakistan is in the middle of the list. Interestingly, according to a survey conducted in the US universities, United States of America is considered the second most dangerous country in the world, trailing North Korea. Following excerpts should interest readers about the truth or deceit of the American high profile media.:
"Almost one third of faculty lists America as the 'greatest threat to global stability.' About 29% name the United States, second only to North Korea (70%). The third choice was Iran, 27%. China was named by 19% of faculty, Iraq 13%, Israel 12%, Pakistan 8%, Syria 7%, and Russia 4%. Faculty see the United States as a greater threat to world stability than Russia by a ratio of 7-to-1. Nearly half of humanities faculty, 46%, see the United States as a threat to international stability, as do 34% of social science faculty."
Pakistan bashing has become a norm for the American media. Above excerpts would prove the extent of deceit, which is now accepted universally as corner stone of the current policy of the US administration. Perhaps, it has covert designs, like it had for Iraq under Saddam.
