PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has delivered a scathing attack on the government, declaring that the state has become “helpless before terrorists” as law and order worsens across the country. Addressing his party’s provincial general council in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the veteran politician said that peace had vanished to the extent that “returning home safely is now considered a blessing.”
The JUI-F leader alleged that militants continue to roam freely while the government looks on as a silent spectator. He accused the ruling leadership of clinging to old, failed policies and claimed that unrest in Pakistan fits into the designs of international powers who, he argued, are dictating national priorities over the safety and security of the people.
Fazlur Rehman took aim at the governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, criticising corruption and holding the former PTI government responsible for aggravating the crisis. He insisted that those who supported the PTI’s rise to power share equal blame for the deteriorating security and political environment in the province.
He also voiced alarm over what he described as increasing interference from external actors in Pakistan’s domestic affairs. According to him, these pressures have stalled key national projects, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), depriving the country of economic stability and progress.
Turning to recent floods that devastated districts such as Swat, Buner, Shangla and Dir Lower, Fazlur Rehman censured authorities for their inadequate response. He said the government’s failure to provide timely relief highlighted inefficiency and indifference at the provincial level. His party, he added, will continue its relief operations and keep a close eye on provincial institutions to expose corruption and negligence.
The fiery remarks underline the growing frustration among opposition leaders and the public alike, as terrorism resurges and governance remains in disarray. Fazlur Rehman warned that unless bold corrective measures are taken, Pakistan risks sliding deeper into chaos.
