FM to depart to Niger today to participate in the 47th Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting of the OIC

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi is leaving for Niger today to represent Pakistan at the 47th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting which will be held from 27-28 November 2020.

The meeting this year, is held under the theme “United against Terrorism for Peace and Development”.

In a video message, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the meeting will deliberate upon the challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah and other important issues.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said he will present Pakistan's stance on the changes taking place on the international landscape.

The Foreign Minister said the Muslims are perturbed over the rising incidents of Islamophobia. He said Pakistan has a very categorical and clear stance on the matter.

Alluding to the Indian atrocities in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) and Indian state terrorism in Pakistan, the Foreign Minister said this is the appropriate forum to highlight the Indian atrocities against innocent Kashmiri people. 

The Foreign Minister said that on the sidelines of the meeting, he will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the Islamic countries.

The?Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC, which meets once a year, considers the implementation of the general policy of the Organization by adopting decisions and resolutions on matters of mutual interest; and reviews the progress of the implementation of the decisions and resolutions adopted during the previous Islamic Summits and Councils of Foreign Ministers Meetings. The decisions of the Council of Foreign Ministers are implemented by the General Secretariat of the OIC.
