Pakistan welcomes decree by Afghan President for release of Pakistani prisoners

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has welcomed decree by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for release of Pakistani prisoners in Afghanistan who have completed their terms but remain incarcerated due to non-payment of fines and those with upto or less than one month remaining in their prison terms.

In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said Pakistan appreciates this humanitarian gesture which will provide relief to the individuals and their families covered by this decision.

He said Islamabad reaffirms its commitment to continue mutual engagement leading to facilitation and benefits for the people on both sides.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan Mansoor Khan said on Tuesday that there will be no terrorism-related convicts among those who will be freed.
