President Abbas announces to hold elections for Palestinian Legislative Council

RAMALLAH :Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas has announced to hold elections for Palestinian Legislative Council on 22nd of May while presidential vote on 31st of July this year.

These would be the first Palestinian elections in more than 15 years.

Palestinian parties Fatah and Hamas reached an agreement in September last to hold elections in 2021.

Meanwhile, Hamas has welcomed the announcement to hold elections, and said it looks to "free elections in which voters can express themselves without pressure and restrictions.
