Supreme Court orders demolition of all illegal structures on Margalla Hills

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has said in a written order that Margalla Hills are declared a National Heritage and National Park. Several restaurants have been built on Margalla Hills, including Monal. An extension of the Monal Restaurant should be demolished.

The Supreme Court has ordered in a written order that new plants be planted around the Monal Restaurant.

The written order states that the CDA chairman has promised to plant new trees. According to the Islamabad administration, Monal has been sealed for illegal expansion and tree felling.

The Supreme Court has said that a large part of Margalla Hills also falls within the boundaries of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Stop all new construction on Margalla Hills.

The written order said that no one other than Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had submitted the report. Islamabad administration and Punjab to submit report on stone crushing at next hearing.

The Supreme Court has said in a written order that the national park cannot be given to anyone for personal or commercial purposes.

According to the written order, the court has issued notices to all hotel owners and occupants.

It may be recalled that a five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice, while hearing a self-notice case related to illegal constructions in Margalla Hills, had ordered that all constructions on Margalla Hill should be stopped.
