Valery Giscard, former French president dies of coronavirus

PARIS: Former French president Valery Giscard d'Estaing has died of novel coronavirus.

According to details, the former president was undergoing treatment at Georges Pompidou Hospital in Paris when he passed away in the cardiology ward. He was 94 years old.

The news of his death was confirmed by his in a statement that read, “Mr. Valery’s health had worsened and he died as a consequence of Covid-19. His funeral would be a very private event.”

Commonly known as Giscard, he served as country’s president between 1974 and 1981, and was rumored to have had an affair with Princess Diana after they met at official and charity arrangements.

France is one of the worst hit countries by coronavirus. It has so far reported 2.2 million cases with 53,816 deaths.
