RAWALPINDI — A four-day polio immunisation campaign begins today in Rawalpindi district, aiming to vaccinate more than one million children under the age of five. District authorities have finalised preparations to ensure comprehensive coverage across both urban and rural areas.
More than 10,000 health workers and supervisors have been deployed for the door-to-door drive, which is part of the wider National Immunisation Day initiative taking place across Punjab. Officials stated that environmental samples in the district recently tested positive for poliovirus, raising concerns about potential transmission.
Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema urged parents to fully cooperate with vaccination teams to ensure no child is left unvaccinated. The District Health Authority confirmed that all logistical and operational arrangements have been completed to facilitate smooth implementation.
The campaign in Rawalpindi is expected to play a key role in the broader provincial effort to eradicate polio from Pakistan.
