LAHORE, PAKISTAN: The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has sounded a medium-level flood warning for the Sutlej River, raising concerns across several southern districts as water levels continue to surge.
According to the PDMA, the increasing inflow has put low-lying regions of Kasur, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, and Pakpattan at risk, prompting the administration to step up precautionary measures. The situation, officials warn, could deteriorate further if upstream water discharge or heavy monsoon rains persist in the coming days.
District authorities have been placed on high alert, with emergency control rooms directed to operate round-the-clock. Departments of irrigation, rescue, health, and livestock have been mobilized to respond swiftly to any emergency situation.
Local communities living near the riverbanks have been advised to stay vigilant, relocate livestock and valuables to safer zones, and avoid unnecessary travel near the embankments. Rescue 1122 teams and disaster response units have readied boats, life-saving equipment, and relief camps to assist residents in case of evacuation.
The PDMA emphasized that close coordination with federal and provincial bodies will continue to ensure timely monitoring of water levels at key points. Authorities have assured that preventive steps are being taken to minimize potential damage to life and property.
