COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: Pakistan’s opening batter Sidra Amin has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the Code of Conduct during Pakistan’s World Cup clash against India — an incident that drew attention both on and off the field.
The disciplinary action comes after Sidra, visibly frustrated following her dismissal in the 40th over, slammed her bat onto the pitch in anger. The act was deemed a violation of Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures during an international match.
According to the ICC statement, Sidra accepted responsibility for her actions, which resulted in an official reprimand and one demerit point added to her disciplinary record — her first in the past two years. Since the player admitted the offence, no formal hearing was required.
Under the ICC’s disciplinary framework, a Level 1 breach carries penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of the match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
Despite the incident, Sidra’s performance in the high-voltage encounter remained impressive, as she scored a fighting 81 runs, standing out as one of Pakistan’s best performers in an otherwise disappointing defeat. Pakistan eventually lost the match to India by 88 runs.
Cricket observers noted that while passion on the field is natural, maintaining composure under pressure remains a crucial part of international cricket — something this episode serves to remind.
