ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Convicted murderer Zahir Jaffer has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court, challenging the apex court’s decision upholding his death sentence in the 2021 Noor Mukadam murder case.
Filed through senior advocate Khawaja Haris, the petition argues that the top court relied on video evidence which was never formally presented or verified during trial. The petition claims these clips were referenced without being part of the official record.
The plea also reiterates concerns over Jaffer’s mental health, stating the court overlooked multiple requests to form a medical board for psychological assessment — a move the defence insists could have impacted sentencing.
Separately, Adiala Jail officials have constituted a psychiatric board from PIMS to evaluate Jaffer. The report is expected to accompany his mercy appeal to the President of Pakistan.
The Supreme Court’s ruling on this review petition could become a pivotal moment in one of the country’s most high-profile criminal cases in recent history.
