KABUL: Army Chief meets Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, discusses law and order situation

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, accompanied by DG ISI Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed and called on Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and discussed the law and order situation, border issues and bilateral relations.

Later COAS held one-on-one meetings with President & Chairman High Council for National Reconciliation Dr Abdullah abdullah.COAS was accompanied by PM’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq

Afghan President expressed appreciation for the PM of Pak for opening Torkham & Chaman border, allowing Afghan transit goods & facilitating stranded Afg return to Afghanistan by land & air routes. President was appreciative of the role being played by Pak for Afg Peace Process.

Both sides discussed current developments in Afghan Peace Process, necessary steps to facilitate Afghan led and owned peace process & facilitation of trade and connectivity. Both sides agreed dignified & time-bound return of Afghan Refugees from Pak is key towards normalcy

Earlier, the US point person on the matter, Zalmay Khalilzad, met with army chief General Bajwa and DG ISI Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed and other senior security personnel in Islamabad.

An official handout issued by the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated that during the meeting matters of “mutual interest, overall security situation including Afghan refugees issue and Afghan reconciliation process and Pak-Afghan border management” were discussed.
