Ethiopia: Government forces begin offensive to capture Tigray capital

In Ethiopia, government forces have begun final phase of offensive to capture the regional capital Mekelle in the rebellious northern Tigray region.                   

According to a government spokesperson, the forces would not bombard civilian areas as safety of Ethiopians in the region is priority of the federal government.

The government had given the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front an ultimatum to lay down arms till Wednesday or face an assault.
