Gilgit-Baltistan government's administrative powers terminated, notification issued

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Arif Alvi has promulgated an order to form a caretaker government as well as to conduct elections in Gilgit-Baltistan province.

According to the notification issued by the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan, the administrative powers of the provincial government has expired and now the Chief Minister and Ministers will not be able to issue administrative orders.

Under the notification, development projects and transfer powers have also been withdrawn from the Gilgit-Baltistan government, while local government development funds have been frozen until elections are held.

It may be recalled that the term of the Gilgit-Baltistan provincial government will expire on June 26
