ISLAMABAD: A two day meeting of the Indus Water Commissioners of Pakistan and India will begin in New Delhi on Tuesday next.

At his weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Friday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said the Pakistani delegation will be led by its Commissioner for Indus Waters Syed Mehr Ali Shah.

The spokesperson said a host of issues under the Indus Waters Treaty including our objections  on the designs of  Pakkal Dal and Lower Kalnai hydropower plants, supply of information on new Indian projects on the western rivers and supply of flood data by India will be discussed in the meeting.

When asked about the recent statement of the Indian Foreign Secretary about Pakistan, the spokesperson said such statements are indeed not helpful in resolution of disputes which are a hurdle in the way of peace and stability in the region.

He said Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute. The entire world knows that it is the core dispute between Pakistan and India.

The spokesperson said such Indian statements are reflection of India's consistent denial and self serving state of denial with regard to Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He said Pakistan has always underscored the need for a meaningful dialogue and peace resolution of all outstanding disputes with India.

He said the current situation in Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is neither tenable nor acceptable. He said India will have to take corrective measures in the occupied territory to move forward. He said the onus is on India to create an enabling environment for a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan.

The Spokesperson once again categorically stated that there is no change in Pakistan's Kashmir policy. He said we want its resolution as per the UN Security Council resolutions.

About the Afghan peace talks in Moscow, the spokesperson said Pakistan has thanked Russia for hosting this important forum. He said Pakistan believes that without peace, our shared dream of connectivity, economic development and prosperity of our peoples and the region will not be materialized. He said the international community need to remain engaged in Afghanistan and help the country at this critical juncture. He said we strongly support the peace process and stability in Afghanistan.
