Inflation eases to 8 percent in December

Islamabad: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released the latest data on Friday according to which inflation eased to 8 percent in the month of December.

As per details, average inflation during July-December period was 8.63pc compared to 11.11 percent last year same period, while average inflation in urban and rural areas was 7.31 and 10.63 percent respectively.

In addition to the food sector, 9.9 percent increase was reported in restaurant and hotel prices, 9.6pc in clothing and 8.1pc in health sector.

PBS data revealed that the price of eggs have reached to Rs. 200 per dozen and sugar price surged to Rs.15 per kilogram.

An increase was also recorded in the prices of electricity, petrol, high speed diesel and sugar prices over the last week. The federal government raised the price of petrol and high speed diesel by Rs. 3 per liter, while the power tariff witnessed a surge of 1.06 paisas per unit.

The prices of 20 items including hot spices, dal mash, cooking oil and garlic also increased during the period under review.

Earlier in December, prices of 8 essential items decreased. Tomato prices fell by Rs30, potato Rs11 while prices of Chicken meat decreased by Rs4 per kg. Price of lentils and 20 kg bag of flour were also reduced.
