Japan PM says considering issuing COVID-19 state of emergency for Tokyo area

TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga says he is considering to declare a state of emergency in the greater Tokyo area over a "very severe" third wave of coronavirus infections.

Speaking at a press conference, Suga hoped that COVID-19 vaccinations would begin in Japan in late next month.

He expressed his commitment to hold the virus-postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympics this summer.
