ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday heard petitions filed by Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for an increase of Rs 1.52 per unit in tariff under the fuel adjustment formula.
During the hearing, Chairman NEPRA Tauseef Farooqi asked CPPA authorities about electricity production through furnace oil instead of gas.
CPPA authorities stated, “What is the benefit of a plant that we won’t use,” adding that “We will shut it down if NEPRA orders”. Chairman NEPRA replied that alternative ways are being used to produce expensive electricity due to lack of gas resources.
NEPRA agreed to increase electricity price by Rs.1.06 instead of Rs.1.52 per unit.
Previously CPPA requested NEPRA to increase electricity price by Rs. 1.52 per unit.
Their application stated that the price rise to be considered under fuel adjustment for October and November by Rs. 0.95 and Rs. 0.57 respectively.
