RAWALPINDI: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Thursday said the Pakistan Army will fail the attempts of external as well as internal enemies.

Major General Asif Ghafoor said whosoever acted behind the design of disgracing the institution of Pakistan Army will not be spared. He regretted that the language used in detailed judgment against the ex-army chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf was beyond humanity, religion, civilisation and values.

“The apprehensions expressed after the brief judgment have proved true now and the words used in the detailed judgment are beyond humanity, religion, civilisation and values,” the DG ISPR said at a brief press conference in strong reaction to the detailed judgment of the Special Court in Musharraf high treason case.

He said if they have defeated the external threats and enemy and menace of terrorism internally, then they would also defeat the existing design. He maintained that they knew how to defend the country and protect respect and dignity of an institution like Pakistan’s armed forces.

However, at the same time, he said, to them the respect of the country was supreme and the country comes first before the institution. He questioned should those who fought for the country and rendered sacrifices be dragged on roads.

The military spokesman said the armed forces would defy designs of the enemy when the country needs their sacrifices and integrity. He assured the nation that the armed forces would never allow any anarchy in the country.

“Have trust in your armed forces. We will never allow any anarchy in the country and while doing so will uphold dignity and respect of the armed forces along with dignity of the country while giving full response to facilitators and tools of the enemy,” he said.

The DG ISPR said the armed forces were organised and have taken oath to sacrifices lives for sovereignty and defence of the country and the same they have been demonstrating during the last 20 years.

“The armed forces of Pakistan with support of the nation achieved such task and objectives which no other army or nation of the world could do,” he said.

Major General Asif Ghafoor said as he had already been saying that after fighting against conventional and sub-conventional war, now they were facing a hybrid war. “We are fully aware of changing character and nature of war and also very well know designs of facilitators and tools in the hands of the external enemy,” he said.

The DG ISPR said that being an important security institution, they have the complete visibility of the picture as to how efforts were being made to weaken the country internally and as to how the external threats could work. He said some elements using external and internal threats wanted to pit institutions against each other and were dreaming of defeating the country which would never happen.

“Our response is in place if we know the threat,” he said. Quoting the words of COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa which he uttered during his visit to the SSG headquarters on Wednesday, he said the stability achieved through numerous sacrifices would not be allowed to be reversed. He said that armed forces were not only an institution but were also like a family which after spirit of faith gets strength from support of the nation.

Major General Asif Ghafoor said that in the wake of the detailed judgment, the prime minister and the COAS held a meeting to ponder how to uphold dignity of the country and armed forces and take forward sentiments of patriotic Pakistanis, which they have also been expressing on electronic media. He said the army chief also conveyed sentiments of the officers and jawans of the armed forces to the prime minister.
