Palestinian President calls on UN to hold conference for Mideast peace


RAMALLAH: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has urged the United Nations to hold urgent consultations on convening an international peace conference.

In a letter to the UN Secretary General, he asked him to arrange an international conference on peace in the Middle East at the beginning of the next year.

The Palestine President said the conference should lead to an end to the Israeli occupation and help the Palestinian people achieve their freedom and independence.
